Mullard Family Crest
Project Description: For class, we were assigned to make a family crest based on the history and customs of our families. When I first started to think about the crest, I decided that I was going to go with a German and English combination crest, and mix the two countries into one. When I went home and asked my parents about the history of my family, they didn't know very much, so I asked my grandpa who knew a lot about my dad's family history. He told me that his family originally came from Germany, and migrated to the U.S. in 1450. That was a very long time ago, and since then, our family has become very American, which is a choose to do an American looking crest. I started out by looking at pictures of the American crest, and I copied the shape of the crest. I decided to add things into the crest that meant a lot to my family, and tried to make the crest look very American.

How the Inspiration Helped Me: After looking at all of these different crests from other people, I decided that I should add more than just a crest without any flags or animals on the outside. Each one of the examples had something added around the crest to make it look better. After looking at all of the crests, and the American one, I decided that I liked the American one the most because it related to my family the most, which is why I used it as a template.

Final Explanation: I decided that I was going to choose this as my final product because I thought the colors for this one were the best, and I liked the stroke on all of the shapes. I added a stroke to every shape because I thought it looked the best for the design, and made the image pop out a bit more. For each section of the crest I choose something that is very important to my family. First, I chose an anchor because my family loves the ocean and the beach, we also love to go on boats when we are on vacation. I then added the state of Arizona with a cactus in the middle because my family has lived in Arizona ever since I was born, and it is our home now. I added the extra cactus inside of the state to show a symbol of the desert, which is a main part of Arizona. I then added a basketball, a baseball bat, and a tennis racket to show that my family is very athletic, and we are very active people. We try to be active at least once a day whether its playing a soccer game, going to the gym, or going on a hike. Lastly, I added a plane to represent how much my family travels during the year. We travel at least once a year to somewhere new, and I love to travel. I added the eagle around the the center of the crest to show how American my family is, and how we are similar to a lot of another American families. I put my last name, Mullard, on the top and bottom of the crest to show that it is our crest.
